About the Symposium

As with our 2024 event, the 2025 Online Symposium will be an open forum for academics and practitioners from a wide variety of academic disciplines to present and discuss their research.

Presentations are welcome from disciplines including Information Technology and Systems, Interactive Media, Criminology and Justice, Psychological Sciences, Social Work and Counselling, HRM/Employment Relations, Management, Accounting, Marketing, Law, Tourism and Hospitality, and Education, including teaching and learning.

We welcome all aspects of research in these areas, including both discipline-based research or research in teaching and learning. New researchers are especially encouraged to present their work. The symposium also provides an opportunity for researchers interested in inviting cross institutional research partners.

Keynote:

Employability as an Academic Imperative: A Practitioner’s Perspective

Prof. James Adonopoulos

Abstract:
In an era defined by shifting workforce expectations and evolving educational paradigms, the concept of employability has become more than a graduate attribute — it is now an academic imperative.  Over the past decade via his role as the Academic Dean of Kaplan Business School, Prof. James Adonopoulos has led a transformation that has repositioned employability as the nucleus of the institution’s curriculum, pedagogy and academic culture with substantial success.  In this keynote presentation, he will offer a practitioner's perspective on how employability-focused education can be embedded institutionally — not as an adjunct to academic excellence but as its natural extension.  Drawing predominately on lived experience, he will reflect on the policies, practices and personal ideology that have shaped his approach.  In doing so, he will demonstrate how this complements scholarly inquiry in the hope it inspires research that remains grounded in the lived realities of students, educators and employers.
